The purpose of offside trap is to prevent the opposing
player from meeting the ball in large gaps in defence. Sometimes it is not
right to defend this player. If defenders think they can't catch up with the
striker, they should prepare an offside trap. But if they can't plan it well,
it will be easier for the opposing team to score.
The biggest mistake made in the offside trap is that
defenders do not act together. For example, a player from the right wing runs
behind the defenders, while the defenders close to him go forward quickly. But
if the left-back doesn't notice this and doesn't move forward, the opposing
player gets rid of from the offside trap.
Another mistake is to focus only on the frontmost
opponent. Sometimes it's easy to set an offside trap for the frontmost player
because the opposing player is close to offside. But if another opposing player
starts running from the same area, it is very difficult to trap that player in
the offside. Defenders think that they have successfully set the offside trap,
but when they concede the goal, they realize that they have failed.
