Lyon-Monaco

-While a player from the centre approaches the opponent's penalty area, Ben Yedder and Volland go to the sides of the penalty area (1). When they do this, the distance between the centre-backs increases and all 3 players have a shooting angle (2).

-While Lyon is on the attack, Monaco prefers 4-4-2 formation (1). But when they got the ball, they changed the formation. Matazo approached the centre of midfield. Henrique became a wing-back. Martins went over to Volland and Ben Yedder. Thus, they tried to attack with 3-4-3 formation (2).

-Both teams had similar plans to attack. The forwards and wingers were relocated, trying to be active in the third zone and weaken the defences. Monaco implemented this plan better, especially in the first half. Ben Yedder, Volland and Martins changed places all the time, Matazo also joined the action of these 3 players (1), but when Ekambi and Cherki went to other areas, Shaqiri and Aouar did not go to the empty areas, so they could not change the direction of the attack (2).

-While Lyon was pressing the goalkeepers and centre-backs in the third zone, Martins and Matazo came back to get rid of this pressure (1). However, Dubois and Emerson followed them, sometimes they were too far back, but they still did not stop following (2). So many times, Monaco lost the ball before they even started to attack.

-Lyon stole the ball a few times while pressing in the third zone, but could not evaluate them. The first reason is that the player who won the ball shot instead of giving the ball to his more available teammate (1), the second reason was that the player who won the ball slowly sent the ball to the player running into the penalty area (2).

-Monaco players, especially Martins, ran behind the defenders. Both passes and runs were diagonal. For example, from the left, Martins ran behind the defenders, while Fofana sent the ball behind Boateng. Neither Emerson nor Boateng could make a move (1). However, the player who took the ball could not score a goal because he could not approach the penalty area quickly (2).

-Lyon played better after Paqueta and Kadewere substituted in. Because Shaqiri never came out of the right wing, but Kadewere played from time to time both on the right wing and in the centre. Paqueta managed the attacks. When his teammates running behind the defenders, he sent it at the right time to them.

-Lyon's on second goal, there was a big gap between the players in the penalty area and on the wing (1). Paqueta and Emerson saw this, then Emerson crossed the penalty area and Denayer scored. Monaco defenders were behind the Lyon players in the penalty area and other players would have scored if Denayer could not (2).
