1-If fullbacks are headed towards the side lines while
the ball is on the centre-backs, the defensive midfielder will get in between them
because the distance between centre-backs has increased. Thus, the front of the
penalty area is protected.
2-If one of fullbacks joins the attack, centre-backs
and fullback -remaining in the defence- establish a triple line and defensive
direction is protected in the same way. The centre-back should pay attention to
the area where fullback goes forward because the opposing team is more likely
to attack from that empty zone. That centre-back may have to intervene quickly.
3-The biggest conflict between a centre-back and a
full-back occurs during the defensive press. The centre-back leaves from his
area when he goes to pressure or full-back is delayed in returning from the
attack. Therefore, gaps occur in and around the penalty area. Opposing
offensive players who use these gaps well put their teams ahead. Beware, you will
notice this error in a lot of goals.
4-In this formation, setting game plans belong to the
defensive midfielder. He's the one who gets the ball forward. His ability to
manage and the vision of the game should be high. That's why defensive
midfielder has been transformed into a centre midfielder lately.
5-Centre midfielders should be good both in defence
and in attack. These two players who have the most runs, the most tackles in
this formation. They decide which way to enter the penalty area.
6-When defending, the defensive midfielder should
control the front of the penalty area, centre midfielders should be positioned
according to the direction of the attack. For example, if attack is on the
left, one of midfielders should be near left and the other in the centre. Also,
a fullback should not get too close to the line, instead of this, midfielder or
winger should do extra defence on the line.
7-If the attack is on the wings, centre midfielders
act as a bridge between centre and wing. By their runs to the penalty area,
they try to increase the number of zones and players to be defended in attack
and disrupt the balance of the defence.
8-Basically, there are 2 types of wingers: down to the
line, enter to penalty area. The inside winger creates space for the fullback
to go forward. In the other option, the
defensive back may be preferred. It can also be determined according to
characteristics of striker, which type of winger will play.
9-What is expected of the winger is to increase the
variety of attacks and to increase the speed of the attack. It is not necessary
that the defensive aspect is very good.
10-If direction of attack will be more wings, the
striker must be with high air control. If crossing to penalty area is not the
first choice, a striker should be who has high ball control and can distribute
passes.
11-It is the duty of the striker to create space for
the wingers who enters the penalty area, to increase the attack options. The
connection of trio must be constant. If they move away from each other, their
attack power will disappear.
12-In counter attacks, winger and striker must be
ready at all times. One or two of 3 front players must be sprinters. Everybody
should know these 2 players and when they steal the ball, should send it to
them as soon as possible.
