1-The most important advantage of triple defence formations
over quart defence is to defend the penalty area with 1 extra player. This
makes it easier to control the box. Especially against opponent teams which
have 1 centre forward, superiority is achieved in the penalty area.
2-The disadvantage of triple defence formations is
that sides of the field are defenceless. If opposing team's fullback and
wingers use this area, they can be effective (1). There are 2 ways to defend wings.
The first is that left and right centre-backs move towards the wings. If only 1
defender comes to the side, the distance between him and the other defenders
increases and the defence is broken (2). That's why all centre-backs should
turn to the side (3).
3-In the second way, right and left midfielders go
back to the wings and the number of players in defence increases by 2 (1). This
is one of the reasons why either left or right midfielders have been chosen
from defensive heavyweight players lately. If the opposing team is using more
of a wing, a four-way defence can be used to increase the defensive measure (2).
4-The most critical players of this formation are the
right and left midfielders. Because they take on wing defence and attack. They
constantly go forward and backward (1). Many teams which are using this
formation substitute these 2 players because they are tired. In addition to
this duty, they do the following: For example, if the left centre-back moves
towards the wing, the left midfielder moves towards the penalty area and
contributes to centre defence (2). In attack, when a centre forward come to the
wing, they try to approach the goalpost quickly by dribbling (3).
5-One of three players in the centre midfield must be
defensive and one must be offensive. The other player must contribute both
sides of the pitch (1). The most important point is the connection between
these 3 players. Centre midfielders keep control of the midfield as long as
they play together (2).
6-When centre midfielders come forward; centre-backs
must approach the midfield (1). When the opposing team wins the ball, the
defenders must put intense pressure on the player who has the ball. If
possible, they can restart the attack by regaining the ball. If they can't get
the ball back, they must at least prevent the opposing players from moving
quickly to the other half (2).
7-When centre midfielders come back; centre forwards
must also come back (1). If they don't, they won't be able to get rid of the centre-backs'
marking and they're less likely to get passes their teammates (2). However, if centre
forwards are sprinter players, they can quickly go to the opponent's penalty
area by taking long passes in the empty areas of the opponent's field (3).
8-When right and left midfielders go to the wings in
attack, right and left centre-backs can cross and increase the number of
attacking players. In addition, because they go forward, they squeeze the
opposing team in a narrow area (1). However, there is a possibility of assisting
by crossing to the box from this area. Big teams want these players to do
assists in attack by choosing full back players on the right and left
centre-back positions (2).
9-I said that right and left midfielders are alone in
this formation and they have a lot of duties. While the team is attacking, one
of the centre forwards can come to the wing to strengthen the wing attack (1).
If one of the centre forwards approaches the wings and the defenders approach
that area, the defence of other centre forward weakens. Forwards with high
finishing ability turn quick passes into goals (2).
10-It is very important that centre forwards are
compatible with each other. Players with similar characteristics should not be
preferred. In general, one should be chosen from the names that are effective
in the penalty area and the other around the penalty area (1). The main task of
these 2 players should be to score a goal as soon as the ball enters and leaves
the penalty area. Because they are behind the defenders in terms of numbers. If
teammates have joined the offense, they can expand the attack by sending the ball
to other players (2).
11-One of centre midfielders, the player with high
attack power should try to enter the penalty area. Centre forwards also pull
the defenders to the sides of the penalty area, creating a shooting angle for
the attacking midfielder (1). In addition, if this player stays in the penalty
area longer, the defence may have a hard time. Because even if the opposing
team uses 3 centre-backs, they have no other choice except defend man to man
(2).
12-If the opposing team has 2 centre-backs, centre
forwards can play close to the centre-backs and prevent them from going in
front of the penalty area. Midfielders can come in front of the penalty area
and shoot or pass behind the defenders (1). Another option is for centre
forwards to hold the ball when they receive it, and when the pressure on them
increases, they can send the ball outside the penalty area to create space for
other players to shoot (2).
